Event Details and Features
The Pokémon GO Psychic Spectacular: Taken Over event is scheduled from Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. This event introduces the Emotion Pokémon Indeedee, which will make its debut in Pokémon GO, including the possibility of hatching a Shiny version. During this period, Trainers can also remove the Charged Attack Frustration from their Shadow Pokémon using Charged TMs.
Throughout the event, Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons, providing opportunities to battle Rocket Grunts and Leaders, including Giovanni, Sierra, Cliff, and Arlo. Players can engage in one-star and three-star Shadow Raids, where Pokémon caught will exhibit a wider variance in Attack, Defense, and HP.
Special Research and Rewards
A Special Research task will be unlocked at the start of the event, allowing players to progress towards obtaining a Super Rocket Radar to track down Shadow Incarnate Forme Tornadus. This research can be claimed until December 2, 2025, at 9:59 a.m. local time. Additionally, event-themed Field Research tasks will be available, offering rewards such as Fast TMs, Charged TMs, and Mysterious Components.
For a fee of US$4.99, Trainers can access paid Timed Research, which includes encounters with event-themed Pokémon like Ralts and Gothita, as well as two Premium Battle Passes and one Super Rocket Radar.
Wild Encounters and Raids
During the Psychic Spectacular event, Lunatone and Solrock will appear globally in the wild, regardless of location. Other Pokémon such as Abra and Beldum may also be encountered. The event will feature a 5 km Egg Pool, with Pokémon like Smoochum, Chingling, Espurr, and Indeedee hatching from these eggs.
In terms of raids, three-star raids will include Pokémon such as Hisuian Braviary, Wyrdeer, and Alolan Raichu. Trainers can also participate in the Groudon Shadow Raid Weekend, which runs from September 20, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. to September 21, 2025, at 10:00 p.m. local time, featuring Shadow Groudon and the chance to encounter Shiny Shadow Groudon.
Criticism and Opposition
While the event offers exciting new features and Pokémon, some players have expressed concerns regarding the cost of paid Timed Research and the perceived imbalance it creates in accessibility to event bonuses. Critics argue that such monetization may alienate players who prefer free-to-play options.
