Kern County organizations are actively preparing for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, with the Houchin Community Blood Bank (HCBB) and the Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center (CBCC) leading a series of initiatives. Additionally, successful donors from September 28 to October 4 will receive a special edition Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt inspired by the movie "Mean Girls."
A significant event, the Pink Event Community Blood Drive, is scheduled for October 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CBCC’s Main Building, located at 6501 Truxtun Avenue. Donors can schedule appointments online, but walk-ins are also welcome. In Tehachapi, limited-edition Breast Cancer Awareness hats will be available for purchase at City Hall and during the inaugural Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on October 11 at Railroad Park. Proceeds will benefit cancer patients and support critical research.
Health Fair and Community Support
The City of Tehachapi will host its first Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on October 11, starting at 8:30 a.m. with remarks from healthcare professionals and a local cancer survivor, followed by the walk at 9 a.m. A health fair will also be available from 8 a.m. to noon, providing resources and information to attendees. There is no registration fee for participation, but donations are encouraged, with all funds raised directed to the AIS Cancer Center and the Tehachapi Cancer Foundation.
