Major Jackpot Winners
In October 2025, National Savings and Investments (NS&I) revealed two significant winners of the £1 million jackpot from the Premium Bonds draw. The first winner, from North East Scotland, held bond number 498FZ511907, which was purchased in April 2022 with a total investment of £10,150. This individual is recognized as Scotland's 30th jackpot winner. The second jackpot winner, based in Greater Manchester, won with bond number 524KB804512, which was bought in January 2023 for just £100, while their total bond holding amounted to £34,350.
Prize Distribution and Statistics
The October draw featured a total prize pot of £399,290,100 distributed among 6,049,850 prizes. The breakdown of prizes included 76 winners of £100,000, 151 winners of £50,000, and 304 winners of £25,000. Notably, the odds of winning with a single £1 bond are currently 22,000 to one, and the average prize fund rate stands at 3.6%. This rate has seen reductions throughout the year, previously being 3.8% in August.
Unclaimed Prizes
Despite the excitement surrounding the current winners, there remains a significant number of unclaimed prizes. As of October 2025, there are 2,646,717 unclaimed Premium Bonds prizes worth £108,348,250. Among these are three notable unclaimed prizes from past draws, including one worth £100,000 and two worth £50,000, all from Greater Manchester.
Official Statements & Responses
Andrew Westhead, NS&I Retail Director, commented on the winners, stating, "As autumn arrives, two winners from North East Scotland and Greater Manchester are settling into the season a million pounds richer. Premium Bonds offer tax-free prizes to savers with every £1 Bond having an equal chance of winning in the draw." He also highlighted the issue of unclaimed prizes, noting that "sometimes people don’t update their contact details with us, which can lead to unclaimed prizes."
Criticism & Opposition
While Premium Bonds are popular among savers, some financial experts express concerns regarding their effectiveness as a long-term investment strategy. Rosie Hooper, a chartered financial planner at Quilter Cheviot, noted, "Premium Bonds remain a favoured choice for many savers despite the odds of winning being relatively low. That said, they aren't the most effective way to grow your money over time, particularly if you are young."
What's Next
Savers can check if they have won in the October draw starting from October 2, 2025, using the NS&I website, app, or even through Amazon Alexa. The ongoing interest in Premium Bonds suggests that many will continue to participate in future draws, hoping for a chance at the substantial tax-free prizes available.
