National Youth Service Indaba in South Africa
On September 30, 2025, the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities hosted the National Youth Service Indaba in Johannesburg, themed "Digital Pathways to Youth Employment: A New Era of Opportunity." In the UK, the Connect to Work programme has been launched as part of the Government's Get Britain Working strategy, with Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin Councils receiving £10.7 million to support individuals with disabilities and long-term health conditions. This initiative aims to assist nearly 2,700 people over five years, providing tailored support to help them overcome barriers to employment. Councillor Rob Wilson of Shropshire Council emphasized the program's potential to benefit local residents facing employment challenges.
Empowering Youth in Malaysia
In Malaysia, the Mereka Talent Accelerator (MTA) Sabah Special Edition is set to empower 40 B40 youths with digital, artificial intelligence (AI), and career-readiness training. Supported by Yayasan Hasanah and the Ministry of Finance, this initiative combines online and physical sessions to enhance employability and entrepreneurial skills. Rashvin Pal Singh, CEO of Mereka Innovative Education, stated that the program aims to create pathways for youth to secure meaningful jobs and adapt to an evolving job market.
Inclusion of Young Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria
In Nigeria, stakeholders are advocating for the inclusion of young Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the green economy and energy transition plans. Amina Audu, a keynote speaker at a workshop, stressed that without intentional policies, systemic exclusion will persist. She argued that PwDs should not be viewed merely as beneficiaries but as critical contributors to sustainable practices.
EmpowerHer Initiative in Kenya
The EmpowerHer initiative, launched by BrighterMonday in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, aims to enhance workforce development for 217,000 young women across Kenya within 18 months. This program focuses on underserved groups, including women, persons with disabilities, and displaced persons, providing them with business skills, employability training, and mentorship opportunities.
