In June 2024, Hunter filed a lawsuit claiming that Williams is competent and alleging misconduct by the judge overseeing her case. The lawsuit sought $250 million in damages but was dismissed on October 9, 2024, although Hunter retains the option to refile. Williams' son, Kevin Hunter Jr., has publicly distanced himself from the drama, expressing a desire for his mother to regain her freedom, stating, “I just want her to get out of this. Because it’s not right.”

She has also been using an iPad, permitted by a judge, to listen to her old radio show and stay updated on news about herself.
