UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood Addresses Migration Crisis at Western Balkans Summit

At a recent summit in London, UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood warned that the UK has lost control of its borders, a situation that is eroding public trust in political leadership and the credibility of the state. Speaking to her counterparts from the Western Balkans, including North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo, Mahmood emphasized the necessity of international cooperation to address the ongoing migration crisis. She stated, “The public rightly expect that their government will be able to determine who enters their country, and who must leave. Today, in this country, and I know in many if not all of yours, that is not the case.”

Mahmood highlighted that the region is increasingly exploited by organized crime groups involved in human trafficking and drug smuggling.
