10/19/2025, 9:29:52 PM

New PvE Mode Launching Soon

Marvel Rivals, a team-based shooter developed by NetEase Games, is set to launch its first-ever Player vs. Environment (PvE) mode titled "Marvel Zombies" on October 23, 2025. This mode is inspired by the recently released Disney+ animated series, Marvel Zombies, and will allow players to engage in cooperative gameplay against waves of undead foes. Players can choose from five iconic characters: Thor, Blade, Magik, Jeff the Land Shark, and The Punisher, each equipped with unique abilities tailored for this zombie-hunting experience.

Gameplay Features and Character Abilities

In the Marvel Zombies mode, players will face continuous waves of zombies and two significant bosses: Zombie Namor and Scarlet Witch in her "Queen of the Dead" form. Each character has been designed with specific abilities to enhance gameplay. For instance, Thor can strike with lightning in his "Awakened" state, Blade wields bouncing Moon Blades for swift attacks, Magik can remain in her Darkchild form indefinitely, Jeff can charge through hordes of zombies, and The Punisher brings traditional firepower to the fray.

Development and Collaboration

The development of this mode was a collaborative effort with the Marvel Animation team, which provided assets to ensure the characters are represented authentically. Danny Koo, Executive Producer at Marvel Games, explained that the collaboration stemmed from discussions about upcoming projects, leading to the idea of creating a PvE mode based on the animated series. Koo noted, “It was a natural fit... Can we just make a PvE mode out of this? Great idea, let’s do it.”

Anticipated Player Engagement

Marvel Zombies is expected to run for two to three weeks, coinciding with the Halloween season. The introduction of this mode marks a significant expansion of Marvel Rivals' gameplay, which has primarily focused on player-versus-player (PvP) combat since its launch. Koo indicated that player feedback will be crucial in determining the future of PvE content in the game, stating, “If Zombies is a success, we’ll bring it back next year as well.”

Official Statements and Future Plans

NetEase has not yet disclosed specific details regarding rewards or progression systems associated with the new mode. However, Koo mentioned that players can expect a mini battle pass to accompany the experience, offering both free and paid rewards. Looking ahead, Koo hinted at the potential for more PvE modes based on player suggestions, including scenarios like X-Men versus Sentinels or Ultron takeovers.

Conclusion

The launch of the Marvel Zombies mode represents a strategic move for Marvel Rivals, aiming to attract players during the Halloween season while also promoting the animated series. As the game continues to evolve, the success of this mode could pave the way for further PvE content, expanding the Marvel gaming universe and enhancing player engagement.
