March's Criminal History
March's violent past includes a previous murder conviction for fatally stabbing 17-year-old Andre Drummond at a McDonald's in January 2000. He was sentenced to life imprisonment but was released on licence in early 2013. Following a subsequent assault on another partner, he was recalled to prison later that year and released again in February 2018. March had been in a relationship with Odysseos for approximately four months before the murder.
Legal Proceedings and Guilty Plea
Initially, March admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility but denied murder. However, during legal proceedings, it was revealed that a defence expert no longer supported his diminished responsibility claim, prompting March to change his plea to guilty for murder. Following this change, Mr. Justice Murray discharged the jury and lifted reporting restrictions related to March's prior conviction.
Statements and Reactions
After the attack, March recorded a voice note to his mother stating, “Mum, I just killed a woman, and I’m going back to jail,” before discarding his mobile phone in a drain. During his arrest, he allegedly told police, “I did it. I killed her Alana Odysseos. I killed her hahahaha.” As he was taken into custody, March expressed a desire to return to prison, referring to himself as “scum” and stating he deserved to be locked up.
