Story summary
- On October 21, 1867, the first two of three Medicine Lodge Treaties were signed near Medicine Lodge, Kansas. These agreements between the U.S. government and southern Plains Indian tribes mandated their relocation to reservations in present-day western Oklahoma. The treaties aimed to establish peace and address the conflicts arising from European-American settlement in the region.
