Evers Files Lawsuit

Wisconsin is joining a multi-state lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to secure contingency funding for the FoodShare program before benefits expire on November 1, 2023.
Governor Tony Evers announced the lawsuit, highlighting that the USDA has the authority to release the funds.
The USDA recently stated that contingency funds cannot be used for benefit payments, which could lead to a gap in benefits for enrollees if the lawsuit fails.
In September 2023, Wisconsin issued approximately $116 million in benefits to FoodShare recipients.
