Cboe Global Markets to Launch Magnificent 10 Index Futures and Options

11/19/2025, 5:08:52 PM

Overview of the Launch

Cboe Global Markets, Inc. has announced the upcoming launch of futures and options on the Cboe Magnificent 10 Index, scheduled for December 8, 2025, pending regulatory approval. The Cboe Magnificent 10 Index, which began trading on October 14, 2025, under the ticker MGTN, is designed to measure the price return of ten large-cap U.S. technology and growth stocks, including the "Magnificent 7" along with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Broadcom, and Palantir Technologies.

Product Details and Trading Features

The MGTN Index is equal-weighted and features a fixed set of constituents, which will only change due to specific corporate actions. The introduction of MGTN futures and options aims to simplify trading for investors by allowing them to manage risk related to these high-profile stocks through a single product, thus avoiding the complexities of handling multiple individual stock positions. Both futures and options will be cash-settled, mitigating the risks associated with physical delivery and assignment.

MGTN options will be available on the Cboe Options Exchange (C1) with two settlement types: AM-settled contracts (ticker: MGTN) and PM-settled contracts (ticker: MGTNW). The options will have a multiplier of $100, meaning that if the MGTN Index is at 460, one contract would represent approximately $46,000 in notional value. MGTN futures will be traded on the Cboe Futures Exchange (CFE) and will feature morning settlement on the third Friday of the expiration month.

Global Trading Hours and Accessibility

To cater to international investors, MGTN futures will be available for trading nearly 24 hours a day, five days a week at launch. Cboe also plans to introduce Global Trading Hours for MGTN options in early 2026, subject to regulatory approval. Both products will be cleared by The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC).

Official Statements & Responses

Rob Hocking, Global Head of Derivatives at Cboe, emphasized the growing demand for innovative trading solutions, stating, "Investors globally are looking for new ways to access and trade the most innovative U.S. companies. The upcoming launch of Cboe Magnificent 10 Index futures and options will deliver that opportunity." Abhishek Fatehpuria, VP of Product Management at Robinhood, noted that the new products would provide retail investors with diversified exposure to leading tech stocks, enhancing their ability to manage risk effectively.

Criticism & Opposition

While the launch has been met with enthusiasm, some market analysts express caution regarding the potential risks associated with trading in such concentrated indices. Concerns have been raised about market volatility and the implications of heavy reliance on a limited number of tech stocks, which could lead to significant fluctuations in investor portfolios.

What's Next

As the launch date approaches, Cboe Global Markets will continue to prepare for the introduction of the MGTN futures and options, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and addressing investor needs for innovative trading products.
