The World's First Dog Park for Disabled Dogs Opens in the UK

Founded over 15 years ago by Cassie Carney, Broken Biscuits is a charity in the United Kingdom dedicated to supporting disabled dogs, particularly those often overlooked in shelters. The organization, staffed by volunteers, provides homes for at least a dozen paraplegic dogs at any given time and offers wheelchairs to owners who may not afford such specialized equipment. In addition to housing and equipment, Broken Biscuits also educates caregivers on how to care for dogs with disabilities.

In an effort to enhance the community for disabled dogs and their owners, Carney spearheaded the creation of what is believed to be the world’s first dog park specifically designed for disabled pups. This 7-acre park features a race track and skate rink tailored for dogs in wheelchairs, where they can also take a “learner driver’s test” to become accustomed to their mobility aids. The park also includes a café, stables, and small hideouts for shy dogs, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.

Carney’s family and friends played a significant role in the park's development, engaging in activities such as painting, digging, and fencing.
