- On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a motorcade. He was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald from the Texas School Book Depository. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the 36th president just over two hours later aboard Air Force One.
