Speculation Surrounding Chris Jericho's Future

Chris Jericho, a prominent figure in professional wrestling, has not appeared on AEW programming since April 9, 2023. His absence has fueled speculation regarding his future, particularly concerning a potential return to WWE. WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry has publicly endorsed the idea of Jericho taking a significant role within WWE's creative department, emphasizing the value he would bring to the organization.

Mark Henry's Endorsement

During an interview on TMZ's Inside The Ring podcast, Mark Henry stated, "Chris Jericho should be a high-up at WWE creative." He praised Jericho's versatility and innovation, noting that he has successfully reinvented his character multiple times over the past two decades. Henry elaborated, "He’s probably the most versatile and innovative guy that has wrestled in the last 20 years. He’s recreated himself so many times and made so much money that it’s ridiculous." Henry believes that Jericho's analytical approach and willingness to question creative decisions would make him an invaluable asset to WWE's writing team.

Henry further explained that Jericho's collaborative nature would allow him to fit seamlessly into the WWE writers' room. "Chris could walk right into the WWE writers' room and fit right in because he’s not a tyrant," he said. "He’s gonna ask you the question, ‘Well, why would he do that?’ and then say, ‘Well, I think that he can do this and still get away with this.’ Chris will dissect stuff and make stuff great."

Implications for AEW

Henry's comments also highlight the potential impact on AEW if Jericho were to leave. The loss of Jericho's creative input could be significant, as he has been a key figure in the promotion since its inception in 2019. As the inaugural AEW World Champion, Jericho's contributions have been instrumental in shaping the company's identity. Henry noted, "That’s what he’s done his whole career, not just for himself but for others."

Official Statements from AEW

AEW CEO Tony Khan has expressed a desire for Jericho to remain with the company, stating, "I would love it if Chris, his final match is eventually... were in AEW." Khan acknowledged Jericho's absence is due to contractual obligations and other commitments, but he remains hopeful for Jericho's return. "I love Chris both personally and professionally," Khan added.

What's Next for Chris Jericho?

As Jericho's contract with AEW approaches its expiration, speculation continues regarding his next steps. Should he return to WWE, possibilities include a surprise appearance in events such as the 2026 Men's Royal Rumble, where he could face new opponents like Bron Breakker and LA Knight.
