Carla MacLeod, the head coach of the Czech Republic national women's hockey team and the Ottawa Charge in the Premier Hockey Federation (PWHL), announced on Sunday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. In a message shared by the Charge on X, MacLeod expressed optimism about her situation, stating, "I want everyone to know that I'm going to be okay." She emphasized her confidence in her medical team and the treatment plan they have developed together, which she believes will allow her to continue coaching.

Despite her diagnosis, MacLeod aims to maintain her coaching responsibilities, particularly with the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Games, where the Czech Republic will compete against the United States on February 5, 2026. This event marks the Czech Republic's second Olympic appearance and their first in the Pool A bracket, following a seventh-place finish at the 2022 Beijing Games. MacLeod has been at the helm of the Czech team since April 2022, leading them to consecutive bronze medals at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships.
