Massachusetts Woman Sues Half-Sisters Over $28 Million Inheritance

Carmen Thomas, a 28-year-old Massachusetts resident, discovered she had two half-sisters, Kali and Abigail Brown, after submitting a 23andMe DNA test in February 2023. This revelation led her to learn about her biological father, Joseph Brown, who passed away in 2018 from an undiagnosed aortic aneurysm. Following his death, Kali and Abigail, along with their mother, Kristin Eckhardt, sued Salem Hospital for medical malpractice, claiming that the hospital's failure to diagnose Joseph's condition in a timely manner led to his death. In April 2023, a jury awarded the Brown family $28.8 million.
