Departed Atlanta Braves Players Secure New Contracts

Following the conclusion of the 2023 MLB season, two former Atlanta Braves players have signed minor league contracts with new teams. Right-hander Wander Suero has joined the Oakland Athletics, while outfielder Carlos Rodriguez has signed with the San Diego Padres. Both players were previously part of the Braves' active roster during the season, with Rodriguez recognized as a top-30 prospect in the organization.

Wander Suero, 34, signed with the Athletics on November 20 and has been assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Suero's tenure with the Braves was marked by challenges; he recorded an 11.37 ERA over 6.1 innings pitched before being designated for assignment in September. He subsequently joined the New York Mets but did not make an appearance for them. Throughout his career, Suero has maintained a 4.96 ERA across 196 games, primarily serving in the bullpen for the Washington Nationals from 2018 to 2021.

Carlos Rodriguez, 24, signed with the Padres on November 25 and has been assigned to Triple-A El Paso. Rodriguez was previously part of the Brewers organization before joining the Braves, where he was listed as the No. 25 prospect in the minor league system. Although he was called up to the Braves' active roster, he did not play in any games. Rodriguez has a solid track record in Double-A, but he is still working to establish himself at the Triple-A level, having batted .247 with a .642 OPS, eight home runs, and 42 RBIs in 159 games at that level.
