Details of the Satellite Deployment

This contract builds on a previous collaboration in which Deloitte launched the Deloitte-1 satellite on SpaceX’s Transporter-13 mission earlier this year. The Deloitte-1 satellite served as a testbed for the Silent Shield intrusion-detection system, which is designed to identify cyber threats targeting satellites.

Deloitte's Silent Shield includes two versions of its intrusion-detection system: a hardware payload that operates out-of-band and a software-only version intended for legacy satellites. The hardware payload, which is currently operational on Deloitte-1, is designed to limit potential vulnerabilities by not allowing command inputs to the satellite. The software payload can function intermittently on older spacecraft that cannot accommodate new hardware.

Timeline and Future Plans

The eight new satellites are expected to be launched in clusters over the next 18 months, forming a constellation that will facilitate the testing of cyber defenses and the generation of operational data. This constellation aims to model potential lateral attacks across multiple spacecraft, a growing concern as satellite networks increasingly rely on inter-satellite links and shared ground architectures. Additionally, Deloitte plans to utilize data from Deloitte-1 to train artificial intelligence models for future autonomous cyber responses in orbit.
