Oscar Isaac Reflects on Career, Family, and New Projects

During a recent conversation at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Career Conversations program, Oscar Isaac discussed his current role as the tortured scientist in Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of "Frankenstein," which is now streaming on Netflix. Isaac expressed that the filming process was unexpectedly joyful, stating, “I got scared” because it felt too light-hearted for the serious subject matter. He recounted a moment when he confided in Del Toro about his concerns, to which the director responded that playing a character without doubts can indeed feel liberating.

Isaac also shared insights into his personal life, particularly regarding a documentary titled "King Hamlet," created by his wife, artist and filmmaker Elvira Lynn. Isaac noted that the documentary was not initially intended for public viewing but evolved into a poignant reflection on life, art, and family. He described the experience of sharing such personal content as “very vulnerable,” likening it to a band creating a record.
