Jamie Garabedian, project manager in the MSPCA-Angell's Animal Protection Division, emphasized that the coalition was formed to reduce euthanasia rates and improve the well-being of animals in the state. The event specifically targets adult dogs, particularly larger breeds, which have seen a decline in adoption rates. Garabedian noted, “There are a lot of misconceptions about adopting older dogs, like they can’t be playful or energetic.”
Participating shelters include the MSPCA-Angell Boston Adoption Center, MSPCA-Angell at Nevins Farm, and Worcester Animal Rescue League, among others. The initiative aims to lower barriers to adoption and encourage families to consider older dogs as companions.

In a similar vein, Pasadena Humane is hosting its "Home for the Holidays" event from December 14 to December 31, 2025. This promotion waives adoption fees for large dogs (40 lbs. and over) and cats aged one year and older. Sponsored by the Pet Care Foundation, the initiative includes care packages for adopters, featuring treats, toys, and essential supplies. The event is designed to encourage families to adopt during the holiday season when they have more time to bond with new pets. All adoptions include spaying or neutering, microchipping, and vaccinations.

In Jacksonville, various shelters are also promoting pet adoptions. The Clay County Animal Services and St. Johns County Pet Center are among those featuring animals available for adoption. Notable pets include Banana Man Jack, a playful mixed-breed dog, and Henry, a shy domestic shorthair cat. The Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services has introduced a new PawFinder App to help potential adopters view available animals more easily.
