Nadine Labaki: From Acclaimed Director to New Beginnings

Nadine Labaki, a prominent figure in the film industry, is known for directing "Capernaum," which became the most successful Arabic film in history. Released in 2018, the film garnered critical acclaim, winning the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and earning an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Labaki made history as the first female Arab director to receive such a nomination. The film, which tells the story of a young refugee boy in Beirut who sues his parents for neglect, achieved remarkable global success, grossing over $68 million, particularly after its release in China. Despite this success, Labaki faced emotional challenges, stating that 2019, the year of her accolades, was also the hardest of her life.
