The DRI has ramped up its intelligence-led enforcement capabilities, focusing on narcotics, gold, wildlife, counterfeit goods, and financial crimes. In the fiscal year 2024-25, the DRI reported significant seizures, including 11,112 kg of narcotic drugs, 1,073 kg of gold valued at approximately INR785 crore, and various wildlife species. The agency's operations have adapted to evolving trafficking patterns, including the rise of synthetic drugs and sophisticated concealment methods.

The DRI's mandate has broadened to encompass national security, public health, and environmental protection.
