FRANCE 24 Launches Video Competition for Youth Engagement on European Issues

12/8/2025, 9:28:55 PM

Overview of the Competition

FRANCE 24 is initiating a large-scale video competition aimed at young people, encouraging them to engage with European issues through creative video storytelling. The competition invites high school, university, and journalism students to produce videos ranging from 1 to 4 minutes in length, focusing on two significant themes: "A cohesive Europe" and "Fake news about the EU or the European Parliament."

Themes and Participation

The first theme, "A cohesive Europe," emphasizes the European Union's efforts to support its regions, particularly the less affluent ones. Participants are encouraged to highlight local EU-funded projects through citizen testimonies and examples of regional cooperation. The second theme addresses the prevalence of fake news targeting the EU and the European Parliament, urging participants to analyze and debunk misinformation while fostering critical thinking.

Participants can utilize various styles and formats, including documentaries, animations, and humorous content, as long as the information presented is accurate. The competition is open to all video production methods, whether shot on smartphones or professional cameras, allowing for a diverse range of creative expressions.

Prize Categories and Evaluation

To ensure fair competition, FRANCE 24 has established three distinct prize categories: High School Prize, Student Prize (for university and vocational students), and Expert Prize (for journalism students). Each theme will have a winner from each category, totaling six prizes.

A prestigious jury, comprising notable figures from European politics and media, will evaluate the submissions. This jury includes representatives from the European Parliament and European Commission offices in Paris, as well as key editorial staff from FRANCE 24. Their expertise aims to provide a supportive evaluation process, particularly for younger participants.

Rewards and Recognition

Winners will receive not only symbolic recognition but also unique experiences, including attendance at an official ceremony at Europa Experience in Paris on June 8, 2026. Their videos will be featured on FRANCE 24 during the major European program "Aux 4 coins de l’Europe / Europe Rendezvous," and they will have the opportunity to spend a day behind the scenes at FRANCE 24, gaining insights into the workings of an international news channel.

Application Process

Registrations for the competition will open in December, with participants encouraged to submit their entries as early as possible. The deadline for video submissions is May 4, 2026. Detailed competition rules will be available upon registration, and participants are invited to reach out for support and clarification.

Conclusion

This video competition represents an opportunity for young individuals to express their perspectives on Europe and contribute to a broader understanding of European institutions. FRANCE 24 aims to foster a creative and enriching environment for participants, encouraging them to tell their stories and engage with pressing European issues through the lens of their generation.
