History

Historical Context

The NCAA introduced the transfer portal in 2018, allowing athletes to switch schools more freely, which has led to over 1,000 players entering annually. This shift has significantly impacted college football dynamics, as seen in Michigan State's four consecutive seasons without a bowl game, highlighting the need for coaching staff to adapt to increased player mobility to remain competitive in the evolving landscape of college athletics.
