The contract encompasses a variety of bus models, including the MAN Lion’s City, MAN Lion’s City E, and MAN Lion’s Intercity LE, which will be utilized by DB Regio AG, the regional transport subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. While the exact number of fully electric buses has not been disclosed, both MAN and DB have highlighted that a significant share will be battery-electric. The electric buses will be available in lengths of 10, 12, and 18 meters, catering to different operational needs. Additionally, the agreement allows for the procurement of diesel, CNG, and hybrid variants, providing flexibility in vehicle selection based on route requirements.

Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus, described the contract as a historic milestone for electromobility, underscoring the collaborative efforts of MAN and DB in achieving climate targets. Harmen van Zijderveld, a member of the DB Management Board for Regional Transport, emphasized that the new buses will ensure reliable and environmentally friendly travel for passengers, while also supporting Germany's industrial base by sourcing the majority of the vehicles from a Munich-based manufacturer.

Despite the positive reception of the contract, there has been some criticism regarding the procurement process.
