Brandon Sklenar: Overcoming Adversity on the Path to Success

Brandon Sklenar, known for his roles in "It Ends With Us" and the upcoming series "The Housemaid," faced significant challenges in his early life. Raised in his grandparents' home following his parents' divorce when he was six, Sklenar developed a stutter, which he attributes to the emotional trauma of his parents' separation. He described the stutter as "psychosomatic," stating, "It was just a trauma response to unexpressed emotions."

Sklenar's passion for acting emerged during his childhood, where he found solace in embodying various movie characters. He noted that his stutter would "disappear" when he acted, but would return when he was himself. After a brief stint in community college, Sklenar sold his car for $2,500 and moved to the West Coast with his girlfriend. However, without a support network or a clear plan, they faced eviction and ultimately broke up, leading Sklenar to live in his car for a period.

At the age of 20, Sklenar's fortunes began to change when he was discovered by a talent manager while asking for a cigarette. This encounter led to him securing an agent and landing small roles while studying acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. His breakthrough came in 2022 when he was cast in Taylor Sheridan's "1923," a role he recognized as "life-changing."

Today, Sklenar enjoys a more stable life, residing in a Midcentury Modern house in Los Angeles with his girlfriend, Courtney Salviolo, and their dog, Remy. He has expressed pride in his home, which features a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and a small movie theater in the living room. Reflecting on his past, Sklenar stated, "If I had it easy growing up, my life probably would have been very different. There’s no way I’d be where I am now without that childhood stutter."

Sklenar credits his blue-collar upbringing, as the son of a construction worker, for instilling a strong work ethic. He remarked, "You do your best, and hopefully good things happen." As he continues to navigate his acting career, Sklenar is set to appear in "The Housemaid," which premieres in theaters on December 19, 2025.
