Teacher Banned for Inappropriate Conduct with Students

Thomas Munro, a 29-year-old biology teacher at Maidstone Grammar School for Girls in Kent, has been banned from teaching indefinitely due to serious professional misconduct involving inappropriate conversations with students. The incidents occurred between 2020 and 2022 while he served as head of biology. A professional misconduct panel found Munro's behavior to be sexually motivated and significantly below the standards expected of educators.

In one notable incident during a CV clinic with Pupil C, Munro discussed topics such as menstruation and masturbation, even disclosing personal details about his own sexual preferences. He reportedly asked Pupil C about her "kinks" and the difference between "fetishes" and "kinks."

Munro's communication with Pupil A included sending 150 pages of emails over two years, where he encouraged her to meet outside of school and suggested creating a fake social media profile for further contact. His correspondence with Pupil B involved 104 pages of emails, including personal messages wishing her a happy New Year and expressing his ongoing support.

Following this, he was suspended in March 2022 and subsequently dismissed for gross misconduct in June 2022. The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) panel concluded that Munro's actions demonstrated a lack of insight, regret, or remorse, emphasizing that he had received safeguarding training and held a position of trust as a teacher.
