Christopher Treadway, a New Jersey man, attempted to stab a firefighter with a screwdriver during a rescue off Atlantic City on New Year’s Eve.
Dominic Gitto, a firefighter who recently joined the force, waded into freezing water to reach Treadway and deflected the attack.
Treadway was later charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault.
