Born in St. Petersburg in 1953, Bychkov emigrated to the United States in 1975 and has spent much of his career in Europe. He has been the chief conductor and music director of the Czech Philharmonic since 2018 and will continue in that role until the end of the 2027-28 season. Bychkov has a rich history with various orchestras, including the Orchestre de Paris and the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne.
