UK and Ireland Box Office Sees Post-Pandemic Recovery in 2025

The UK and Irish box office achieved its best annual performance since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, generating £1.07 billion ($1.45 billion) in 2025. This figure represents a 1% increase from the previous year’s total of £1.06 billion, according to data from Comscore Movies. The highest-grossing film of the year was "A Minecraft Movie," which earned £56.88 million ($76.9 million) in the UK and Ireland, contributing significantly to the overall revenue.

The success of "A Minecraft Movie," based on the popular video game, was notable for its viral impact, particularly the "chicken jockey" scene. It also topped the North American box office with $423.9 million, although it ranked fifth globally with $958.3 million, behind the Chinese animation "Ne Zha 2," which grossed $2.24 billion. Other successful films included "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy," which earned £46.4 million ($62.7 million), and "Wicked: For Good," which took in £45.8 million ($62 million). The year also saw a record 224 saturation releases, indicating a recovery in the production pipeline following pandemic-related disruptions and industry strikes.
