Andreea Gleeson Steps Down as CEO of TuneCore

Andreea Gleeson, the CEO of TuneCore, has announced her departure from the role, effective immediately, as she transitions into a strategic advisor position for the parent company, Believe. This change was communicated in an internal memo and marks the end of a significant chapter for TuneCore, which has seen substantial growth under her leadership. Romain Vivien, Believe’s global head of music, will oversee TuneCore’s leadership, supported by senior executives including Chief Revenue Officer Brian Miller and Chief Technology and Product Officer Luxi Huang.

Gleeson joined TuneCore in 2015 and rose through the ranks, becoming CEO in August 2021. During her tenure, the company expanded its global footprint and modernized its platform, evolving from a distribution service to one focused on artist development. Notable initiatives include the launch of TuneCore Accelerator, aimed at providing independent artists with education and career-building opportunities. Under her leadership, TuneCore reported that independent artists have earned over $5 billion since its inception in 2006, a milestone achieved just 17 months after surpassing the $4 billion mark.

In her memo, Gleeson expressed pride in the progress made at TuneCore, stating, “Leading TuneCore has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my career.” She emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering independent artists and maintaining an artist-first mission. Denis Ladegaillerie, founder and CEO of Believe, acknowledged Gleeson’s contributions, highlighting her role in strengthening TuneCore’s platform and advancing initiatives such as the Music Fights Fraud Alliance and efforts toward gender equity in the music industry.

While Gleeson’s departure is framed positively, it comes amid challenges for TuneCore, including a $500 million copyright-infringement lawsuit filed by multiple labels, including Universal Music Group and Concord Music Group. The lawsuit alleges that TuneCore and Believe knowingly distributed infringing copies of sound recordings from prominent artists. The company has not publicly commented on the lawsuit's status.
