Overview of New Routes
Breeze Airways, a leisure carrier founded by David Neeleman, is set to expand its operations with the addition of four new cities and a total of 14 new routes starting in May 2026. The new destinations include Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) in New Jersey, Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport (BRO) in Texas, and Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, Bahamas. Additionally, Breeze will resume service to San Antonio International Airport (SAT), a market it last served in May 2022.
Details of the New Services
The new routes will enhance connectivity for travelers in underserved markets. Flights from ACY to Charleston International Airport (CHS) will commence on May 6, operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with introductory fares starting at $49. The route from ACY to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) will begin on June 11, also with two weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays, starting at $39. For BRO, flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO) will start on May 15, with two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays, priced from $79.
In San Antonio, Breeze will introduce nonstop flights to RDU and Memphis International Airport (MEM) beginning May 7 and May 8, respectively. A seasonal route to Pensacola International Airport (PNS) will launch on June 10, operating every Wednesday and Saturday.
Strategic Importance of New Routes
Breeze's expansion into these markets is significant as it aims to provide more options for leisure travelers. The addition of these routes is particularly beneficial for ACY and BRO, which have limited airline options. Breeze's entry into these airports will increase competition and provide travelers with more choices, as ACY previously had only Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air serving the area.
David Neeleman emphasized the importance of connecting underserved destinations, stating, "Breeze's convenient, direct service to underserved destinations continues to resonate with travelers, and we're eager to introduce Brownsville and Atlantic City to our unique, elevated product offering."
Official Statements & Responses
Stephen F. Dougherty, Executive Director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, remarked on the significance of Breeze's new routes, stating, "Expanding service in a way that directly benefits our passengers is especially meaningful." Gary Musich, President and CEO of Visit Atlantic City, expressed excitement about the new routes, highlighting their potential to attract visitors during peak summer months.
Criticism & Opposition
While the expansion is generally welcomed, some critics point out that the sustainability of Breeze's business model, which relies on targeting leisure travelers with limited flight frequencies, may pose challenges in maintaining profitability in the long term.
What's Next
As Breeze Airways prepares to launch these new routes, the airline is expected to monitor demand closely and may adjust its offerings based on traveler response. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance service in mid-sized markets and cater to the growing demand for leisure travel.
