The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has expressed strong opposition to the upcoming Water Musical Festival scheduled to take place from May 1 to May 4, 2024, in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. This festival is part of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign and will coincide with the Tourism Workers’ Day Celebration. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), led by Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, anticipates significant attendance from both local and international tourists, which will necessitate road closures in the area.

Mohamed Sukri Omar, the Selangor PAS Youth chief, articulated several concerns regarding the festival. He argued that the event promotes "free mixing" in a festival-like atmosphere that may not align with local cultural sensitivities and values. Sukri emphasized that such large-scale events in a congested urban area could lead to disruptions in traffic, public safety issues, and potential health risks, including overcrowding and vandalism.
