Students Protest ICE

On January 30, 2026, hundreds of students joined a nationwide protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
About 200 students from San Luis Obispo High School and 100 from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), marched downtown.
They chanted “Abolish ICE” and “Get ICE off our streets.”
The protests were fueled by outrage over fatal shootings of ICE agents in Minneapolis.
Local businesses closed in support of the protesters.

Protesters Demand ICE Abolition

On January 30, 2026, protests erupted after the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In New York City, thousands braved the cold, chanting "Abolish ICE" and linking the agency to fascism.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced a civil rights investigation into Pretti's death as protests grew across cities, including Albuquerque where demonstrators called for an end to ICE's "reign of terror".
