Pope Leo XIV has initiated a campaign to address the proliferation of AI-generated misinformation by urging Catholic organizations to integrate a direct feed of official Vatican news on their websites. This initiative, reported by Vatican News on February 18, aims to provide parishes, dioceses, and Catholic associations with a continuously updating feed of authorized content, including videos, speeches, announcements, and texts from official Vatican sources in 40 different languages.

In a letter to bishops, Pope Leo XIV described the widget as a “tool of evangelisation” that would enable communities to access information directly from the primary source. This move comes in response to an investigation that revealed numerous YouTube and TikTok accounts disseminating AI-generated videos falsely attributed to the pope. For instance, a Spanish-language video claiming to show Leo preaching about the value of adoring women garnered 9.6 million views, while another AI-labeled video misled viewers and received 32.9 million views.
