Introduction to Smart Future
Discount Bank has introduced Smart Future, a pioneering digital platform aimed at assisting customers in managing their pension savings and insurance. This service, available at no cost through the bank’s app, is the first of its kind in Israel's banking sector. Smart Future seeks to simplify the complexities surrounding pensions, making them more accessible and transparent for users. The platform consolidates all pension and insurance information, providing a comprehensive overview of retirement status.
Features and Functionality
Smart Future utilizes data from Israel’s Pension Clearing House, enabling users to gain insights into their financial situations and make informed decisions regarding their retirement. The platform includes an advanced retirement simulator that estimates expected retirement income based on factors such as age, accumulated pension savings, and anticipated retirement age. Users can also factor in additional income sources, including securities portfolios and real estate holdings, to evaluate their overall financial outlook.
If the simulator identifies a gap between expected and desired retirement income, it suggests strategies to bridge this gap through increased monthly savings. Furthermore, Smart Future offers personalized insights and alerts to help users protect and enhance their pension savings. Notifications regarding high management fees, potential insurance coverage gaps, and outdated beneficiary details are included, addressing common oversights that can affect financial security in retirement.
Insights from Research
The launch of Smart Future follows a study commissioned by Discount Bank, conducted by Shiluv I2R in November 2025, which surveyed 505 Israeli adults aged 21 to 67. The findings revealed significant confusion and disengagement regarding pensions: 49% of respondents did not fully understand their pension savings, and 56% were unaware of the risk levels associated with their pension funds. Additionally, 30% could not recall their designated beneficiaries, and about half were unaware of the management fees they were paying. Notably, 69% reviewed their pension statements infrequently, doing so only once every six months or less. Despite this, 81% expressed a desire to gain a better understanding of their pension savings.
Professional Guidance and Engagement
While 55% of respondents reported receiving pension advice in the past three years, primarily from independent agents, 45% had not sought any professional guidance. Among those who did not pursue advice, 35% considered the issue unimportant, citing complexity and procrastination as barriers to engagement. The survey also indicated that 63% of participants expect their income to decline upon retirement, with 22% unable to estimate their financial situation at all. These insights highlight the pressing need for accessible digital tools that simplify pension planning and encourage proactive engagement among individuals.
Official Statements
Avi Levi, CEO of Discount Bank, stated, “The launch of Smart Future reflects our commitment to making the complex world of finance more accessible to our clients. It provides clear, simple, and objective information, along with practical tools to plan for the future and strengthen financial resilience, especially in retirement.”
Conclusion
The introduction of Smart Future by Discount Bank represents a significant step toward enhancing financial literacy and engagement in pension planning among Israeli citizens. By addressing common barriers and providing a user-friendly platform, the bank aims to empower individuals to take control of their financial futures as they approach retirement.
