Kurdish Women's Resistance Against the Iranian Regime

Vian, the commander of the Iranian-Kurdish PJAK (Kurdistan Free Life Party), leads a significant underground movement of Iranian exiles opposing the Islamic Republic. She asserts that Kurdish women have historically been at the forefront of the struggle for freedom in the Middle East and are now inspiring women in Iran to join the fight. Vian expressed her aspiration to expand protests within Iran, emphasizing the need for a revolution to achieve freedom.

In interviews conducted by Israeli journalist Anghel, several Kurdish women fighters articulated their commitment to the cause. Rovar, a company commander, stated, “When the time comes, and everything is ready, we will attack the bases and the centers of the regime. We will return to our country, even to Tehran itself, to continue our struggle.” Another fighter, Govand, expressed her readiness to sacrifice herself for their cause, saying, “For some of us to live, some of us must die.” This sentiment reflects the deep commitment among these fighters to liberate their people from oppression.

The struggle against the Iranian regime is not limited to armed resistance. Jafar, a social activist who has faced severe repercussions for his activism, shared his harrowing experiences of torture at the hands of the Revolutionary Guards. Active during the 2022 “Women, Equality, Freedom” protests, Jafar provided aid to the wounded and supported prisoners. He recounted the brutal treatment he endured, including sexual assault, highlighting the regime's oppressive tactics against dissenters.
