Trafficking Scheme Busted in Jagtial: Youth Lured to Laos Under False Employment Promises

On February 20, 2024, four members of a cyber fraud gang were arrested by the Jagtial police in Telangana for their involvement in trafficking youth to Laos under the pretext of overseas employment. The arrested individuals include Islavath Vijayender alias Andrew, Meesala Rajashekar, Dandugula Kalyan, and Shyam Rao, with a fifth suspect, Raju, currently in Laos. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar provided details during a press conference, revealing that Vijayender had joined a cyber fraud network in Laos after being promised a commission for each person he recruited.

Victims were initially sent to Bangkok on tourist visas before being illegally transported to Laos. Once in Laos, they were forced to work in cyber call centers allegedly run by Chinese companies. Reports indicate that victims faced threats and had their passports confiscated to prevent their return if they refused to comply with the gang's demands.
