General Motors Issues Recall for Over 43,000 SUVs Due to Transmission Concerns

General Motors (GM) is recalling 43,732 full-size SUVs from the 2022 model year due to a potential transmission issue that could increase the risk of a crash. All these vehicles are equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission featuring an electronic transmission range select system.

The recall stems from a defect in the transmission control valve, which may be prone to excessive wear over time. This wear can lead to a gradual loss of pressure, resulting in harsh shifting during operation. In rare instances, the rear wheels may lock up temporarily or remain locked, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has documented that the lock-up may occur when the transmission attempts to downshift from eighth gear.
