Legal Dispute Over Band Name Escalates as Live Tours Canada

As the band Live embarks on its Canadian tour, a legal dispute has resurfaced between founding members and lead singer Ed Kowalczyk. Former members Chad Taylor, Chad Gracey, and Patrick Dahlheimer have issued a cease and desist letter to Kowalczyk, asserting that he no longer has the rights to use the band's name in any business operations. This conflict marks the latest chapter in a protracted legal battle that began in 2008 when Kowalczyk departed from the band to pursue a solo career.

(AFU), the entity that holds the trademarks for Live, when he began touring under the name “Ed Kowalczyk of Live.” The band reunited in 2016 but split again in 2022 after Kowalczyk formed a new group using the name Live, leading to further legal complications. Previous lawsuits between the parties were reportedly settled last year, but tensions have reignited with the recent cease and desist.
