Grief and Loss During Ramadan in Gaza

In December 2023, an Israeli airstrike devastated the Al-Yazji family in Gaza City, resulting in the deaths of 40 relatives, including 22 children. The strike occurred amid ongoing hostilities between Israeli forces and Hamas, which escalated following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel in October 2023. The only survivors from the family are Saddam al-Yazji, his wife Heba, and their 11-year-old daughter Maryam, who now face the profound grief of losing their loved ones during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
