Concerns Raised Over Voting Practices in Gorton and Denton Byelection

During the recent Gorton and Denton byelection, the election observer group Democracy Volunteers reported significant concerns regarding breaches of secret ballot rules, particularly instances of "family voting." Founded by Dr. John Ault and supported by Conservative peer Prof. Robert Haywood, Democracy Volunteers deployed four accredited observers across the constituency, monitoring 22 out of 45 polling stations. Their observations revealed that 12% of voters were either directing or affected by family voting, with the practice noted in 68% of polling stations observed. This marked a stark increase compared to previous byelections, where family voting was reported in only 12% of polling stations, affecting just 1% of voters.
