Coco Robotics Expands Delivery Capabilities with New Robot Design

3/1/2026, 12:38:57 AM

Overview of Coco Robotics and Its Innovations

Coco Robotics, a startup originating from UCLA, is set to enhance its delivery services with the introduction of Coco 2, a redesigned delivery robot. This new model aims to improve reliability in adverse weather conditions, such as flooding and snow, utilizing advanced technology from Nvidia. Co-founder Zach Rash emphasized the need for these enhancements, stating, “We want it to have a lot more reliability in the most extreme conditions where it’s either unsafe or uncomfortable for human drivers to be on the road.”

Features of Coco 2

The redesigned Coco 2 will feature a sleeker appearance, upgraded cameras, and laser navigation technology akin to that used in self-driving vehicles. These improvements are intended to facilitate safer navigation through busy streets and sidewalks. The robots will maintain their recognizable branding, characterized by a warm and friendly pink and white color scheme. Currently, Coco operates a fleet of approximately 300 robots across various neighborhoods in Los Angeles, including West Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Echo Park.

Market Demand and Expansion Plans

Coco Robotics is responding to a growing demand for delivery services, particularly as many areas in Los Angeles face challenges in hiring sufficient human delivery drivers. Rash noted, “A lot of the markets that we go into have been telling us they can’t hire enough people to do the deliveries and to continue to grow at the pace that customers want.” The company plans to ramp up production to 1,000 units per month by summer and aims to expand its services beyond Los Angeles to other regions in the United States, as well as Asia and Europe.

Addressing Criticism and Job Creation

While some critics argue that the introduction of delivery robots may displace human jobs, Coco Robotics maintains that the technology still requires human oversight, thereby creating additional employment opportunities. The company has also partnered with DashMart, a service by DoorDash, to facilitate the delivery of groceries and other necessities directly to consumers.

Conclusion

Coco Robotics is poised to enhance its delivery capabilities significantly with the launch of Coco 2, addressing both market demands and operational challenges. As the company expands its fleet and geographical reach, it continues to navigate the balance between technological advancement and the workforce implications of automation.
