This decision recognizes Woods' extraordinary achievements in amateur golf, where he won three consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur Championships from 1991 to 1993 and three consecutive U.S. Amateur Championships from 1994 to 1996. The first recipients of the newly named awards, the Tiger Woods Medal and the Tiger Woods Trophy, will be crowned at the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club and the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Saucon Valley Country Club, respectively.

Woods' accomplishments include a total of nine USGA championship victories, tying him with Bob Jones for the most in history. In recognition of his contributions, Woods received the Bob Jones Award, the USGA’s highest honor, in 2024.
