Former U.S. Open tennis champion Daniil Medvedev is among a small group of athletes and team members stranded in Dubai due to widespread travel disruptions caused by ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The ATP Tour has confirmed that it is actively assisting these individuals in their attempts to leave the region following the conclusion of a recent ATP 500 event.

Medvedev reported via his Instagram that he is safe and currently staying at a friend's apartment in Dubai. The ATP Tour has stated that the health, safety, and wellbeing of players and staff remain a priority. The ATP is in direct communication with those affected, as well as tournament organizers and security advisors, to facilitate safe departures when conditions permit.

The travel issues extend beyond tennis, affecting various sports. Cricketers from England and Pakistan's men’s developmental teams were also in the United Arab Emirates when a scheduled game was canceled. Youth basketball players faced similar challenges as a EuroLeague tournament was called off. Additionally, numerous sports events in the region, including Asian Champions League soccer games and the Qatari league, have been suspended.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has indicated that some athletes are experiencing travel difficulties as they prepare for the Winter Paralympics, which are set to begin in Italy on March 6. They are in close contact with delegations and stakeholders to find solutions for those affected.

The ATP Tour emphasized its commitment to player safety, stating, “We can confirm that a small number of players and team members remain in Dubai... We will continue to provide appropriate support to ensure players and their teams can depart safely when conditions allow.” The IPC also reassured that they are working diligently with Milano Cortina 2026 to address the travel issues faced by delegations.
