3/2/2026, 9:55:29 PM

New Coffeehouse Design Initiatives

Starbucks has announced significant updates aimed at transforming its coffeehouse experience into a more inviting "third place" for customers. The company is introducing a new lounge chair featuring wide, open arms and soft velvet upholstery in deep green, complemented by classic walnut legs. This design is intended to encourage patrons to "slow down and stay awhile." Additionally, Starbucks is rolling out redesigned ceramic mugs inspired by Italian cafés and Seattle’s maritime heritage, featuring a wider mouth to enhance aroma and a reshaped handle for better grip. Testing of these new designs is currently underway in select locations in Los Angeles and New York City, with plans for broader North American availability in 2026 and a global rollout starting in 2027.

Ready-To-Drink Beverage Innovations

In a separate initiative, Starbucks is launching a new line of Ready-To-Drink (RTD) coffee and protein beverages on March 23. This line will combine Starbucks coffee with 22 grams of protein, 5 grams of prebiotic fiber, and various vitamins and minerals, all while maintaining a low sugar content of 2 grams per 12-ounce bottle. Flavors will include Classic Caffè and Caffè Mocha, priced at $3.99. Additionally, the company is introducing lighter RTD options, such as the "Iced Espresso Lite Chilled Multiserve" in Vanilla Latte and Caramel Macchiato flavors, and a "Doubleshot Energy Zero Sugar" variant, both designed to cater to health-conscious consumers.

Seasonal Merchandise Launch

Starbucks is also set to release new spring merchandise collections, including Matcha and Cherry Blossom-themed items, starting March 3 in participating U.S. and Canadian coffeehouses. The Matcha collection features items like the Matcha Splatter Mug, priced at approximately $17.95, and the Matcha Glass Cold Cup, which will retail for $22.95. The Cherry Blossom collection includes a 16-ounce stainless steel tumbler with a cherry blossom design for $32.95 and a 24-ounce plastic cold cup with a pink gradient for $24.95. Kap Pitarys, Starbucks’ director of U.S. merchandise, stated, “We were inspired by the customers in our coffeehouses. We created an assortment that captures the spirit of spring and our customers’ love of matcha.”

Conclusion

These updates reflect Starbucks' commitment to enhancing the customer experience through innovative design and product offerings. By focusing on creating a welcoming environment and expanding its beverage and merchandise lines, Starbucks aims to strengthen its connection with customers and adapt to evolving consumer preferences.
