Mike Haynie has been appointed as the 13th chancellor and president of Syracuse University, succeeding Chancellor Kent Syverud, who will depart in June 2026 to assume the presidency at the University of Michigan. Haynie holds a Ph.D. in entrepreneurship and business strategy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, an MBA from the University of Oregon, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Delaware. His previous roles include serving as an officer in the United States Air Force for 14 years and holding various leadership positions in academic and public service organizations. His work has garnered national attention, including a feature on “60 Minutes” and recognition by Time magazine as one of 16 individuals working toward a more equitable America.
