Brisbane Braces for Potential Flash Flooding This Weekend

Brisbane is preparing for a wet weekend, with meteorologists predicting significant rainfall that could lead to flash flooding. According to meteorologist Daniel Hayes, while Saturday may see light rain, the situation is expected to intensify on Sunday and into Monday. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated as a weather system from northern Queensland moves southward into the Brisbane area.

Hayes indicated that most residents could expect between 10 to 20 millimeters of rain from widespread showers, but isolated thunderstorms could result in totals exceeding 50 millimeters, with some areas potentially receiving between 50 to 100 millimeters. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued warnings for severe thunderstorms, urging residents to remain vigilant.

Sandbags are being made available at five locations across the city to help mitigate the risk of flooding. On the southside, residents can collect sandbags from 9 Redfern Street in Morningside, Herbert Street in Lota, and 38 Shamrock Road in Darra. On the northside, sandbags can be obtained at 66 Wilston Road in Newmarket and 33 Jennings Street in Zillmere.
