Tragic Death of Todd Meadows on Deadliest Catch Sparks Investigation

Todd Meadows, a 25-year-old deckhand on the Discovery Channel series *Deadliest Catch*, died on February 20, 2023, during the production of the show's 22nd season. The incident occurred while the crew was working aboard the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady near Dutch Harbor, Alaska. According to fellow deckhand Trey John Green III, the Bering Sea was relatively calm that afternoon, but the water temperature was just above freezing. Meadows was reportedly in a crab pot that fell overboard, leading to his tragic accident.

Green described the moment when Meadows fell into the water, stating, “It’s one of those things that none of us really understand.” He noted that Meadows was performing his duties when the pot unexpectedly went over the rail. After falling into the water, Meadows managed to escape the pot and attempted to swim, but he was not wearing a life vest, as none of the crew were equipped with them. Green indicated that Meadows was in the water for only three to four minutes before the ship's designated swimmer retrieved him, but by that time, he was already lifeless.
