Whoopi Goldberg Documentary in Development

A new documentary chronicling the life and career of Whoopi Goldberg is currently in development, directed by Geeta Gandbhir, known for her work on “The Perfect Neighbor.” The untitled film is a collaboration between Imagine Documentaries, Message Pictures, and One Hoe Productions. It aims to expand on themes from Goldberg’s autobiography, “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother and Me,” and will feature archival footage, personal materials, and performance clips.

It will specifically follow her as she reimagines her 1984 Broadway one-woman show, “The Whoopi Monologues,” for a new staging at Lincoln Center, set to open later this summer. The film will also highlight her ongoing work with her producing partner Tom Leonardis on various theater projects, her family life, including time spent with her great-grandchild, and her quieter existence in Italy.
